Phase 6: Reflection on outcomes

The practice of this exercise provides knowledge about the Integraal process conception and application, as well as opportunities to deeply explore case studies for participative deliberation processes in local places. This can be a challenge for people who do this for the first time, but its practice can definitely help to understand actors’ values on the social choice problem and explore possible alternatives for better performances.

Through this experience, the Integraal framework was followed in different ways. Within the exploration of Integraal phases, a constant feedback took place moving towards phase 3 to phase 1, or from phase 3 to phase 2 and so on. According to the knowledge of the social choice problem and the willingness to follow the evaluation method, participants should be free to choose the way they want to follow the process, as Integraal is an iterative process.

The multi-criteria, multi-actor experience with the KerDST matrix will provide much more information and conviction in a participative deliberation process (variation D of KerDST Deliberation Support Tool). Deliberations online allow participants to see instantly the representation of the future scenarios and the indicators or values that could allow deep exploration of where or how to solve the problem. Moreover, all participants could have a participative role developing together all phases, like the identification of the social choice problem, which can finally provide complete reflections on the evaluation and on the reactions to other participants’ points of view.
